Blue Bird Aviation Plane Crashes In Somalia

A Blue Bird Aviation De Havilland Dash 8-400 registration 5Y-VVY with a crew of 6 crashed on landing at Abudwak (Somalia) town airstrip on December 17.

The six crew on board the khat ferrying plane escaped with no injuries although the 22 year old Dash 8 400 plane is said to have been substantially damaged when its right main gear is reported to have collapsed during landing.

This is the second such incident involving the company’s planes in Somalia with another crash reported to have occurred while landing at Beledweyne Airport when the DHC-8-402Q Cargo aircraft (5Y-VVU) hit a donkey ending into a trench on the side of the runway.
