On 22 August, Egyptian Holding Company for Airports and Air Navigation reported a surge in passenger numbers for July 2024 compared to July 2023.
According to the report passenger numbers were up 7.7% this July to reach 4.7 million passengers compared to 4.35 million passengers last July. The highest increase was witnessed at Cairo International Airport which saw a 10.2% rise to 4.7 million passengers while at the Hurghada International Airport passenger numbers reached 843,123 a 4.9% increase. At the Sharm el-Sheikh International Airport numbers were up 3.5% with 567,484 passengers recorded.
This was despite a dip in aircraft movement numbers where a 0.2% drop was recorded. The largest dip among the major airports was witnessed at the Sharm el-Sheikh International Airport where there was a 3.3% drop with other negative numbers recorded at El Tor, Aswan and Port Said. Aircraft movements at Cairo International Airport and Hurghada International Airport witnessed a 2.6% and 1.3% increase respectively.
