Green Africa airlines has acquires its first owned aircraft an ATR-500 with registration mark 5N-GAB which landed in Lagos on 1st April 2025. The asset according to the company was partly financed by the Naira debt facility by Access Bank.
“Needless to say, this is a significant milestone for all of us, and the incoming aircraft will be pivotal for the next phase of our journeyto bring safe, affordable and reliable air travel to a broader group of customers in the region,” the company said in a statement.
Green Africa is licensed by the Nigeria Government to operate Air Transport and received its Air Operators Certificate (AOC) from the NCAA in August 2021.
Since then the company has been on an expansion struggle having placed the largest Boeing order from the African continent for up to 100 Boeing 737 Max aircraft in December 2018 before the 737 Max was grounded globally. In February 2020, an order for 50 Airbus A220-300s was placed, however delivery has been deferred in light of the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the industry.
By the start of operations in 2021, Green Africa had on lease agreement 3 ATR 72-600s from ACIA, and has plans to scale to up to 15 ATRs by the end of 2022 but suspended operations due to a lessor dispute early this week.
