The Minister of Aviation, Hadi Sirika has said that the 2nd Abuja Airport Runway will be handed over on May 29th during a visit to the construction site at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport Abuja.
The Minister who was also flanked by Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Malam Muhammad Bello said the project would include a cargo hub and serve as the designated hub for the national carrier.
The Minister also said the aviation city in the 12,000 hectares of land given for the project will also serve as a base for the aviation leasing company and host Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau offices. This is part of the master plan launched in 2016 for transformation of the nation’s air transport sector that also includes Agro-Allied Cargo Terminals, Aerotropolis, Africa Aerospace and Aviation University (AAAU) and a Maintenance Repairs and Overhaul (MRO) Centre.
The project was awarded to China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation Nigeria Limited (CCECC) at a cost of N92 billion (approx $200 million).
