ANGOLA: Lufthansa’s Plane Lands on an Emergency at the 4 De Fevereiro International Airport

The 4 de Fevereiro International Airport safely and professionally resolved an emergency situation
requested by Lufthansa, on the afternoon of Saturday, December 3.

It occurred with the Airbus A359, flight LH575 from the German airline Lufthansa, departing from Cape Town and Munich its final destination, whose crew detected fire in the aircraft’s left engine, while was flying over the Angola air space.

As recommended by the International Civil Aviation Standards, which targets, primarily, the people safety, the crew immediately declared emergency and requested permission to land at Luanda International Airport at 2:18 p.m. local time.

The entire Airport Emergency Plan system was immediately activated – including firefighters, INEMA
medical personnel, airport operations and the entire multidisciplinary quick response team for
emergency situations at the 4 de Fevereiro International Airport, which acted promptly and
professionally to resolve the situation reported to them with the necessary competence.
About thirty-five minutes after been declared the emergency situation, Lufthansa’s Airbus A359 –
with registration number D-AIXE – landed at 2.56pm local time on the airport’s main runway. The
teams on the ground solved the situation in record time.
The situation was reported to the Angolan Civil Aviation Authority (ANAC) and to the Accident
Investigation and Prevention (INIPAT) where the aircraft, passengers and crew being in complete
safety. On board were 286 people, of which 273 were passengers and 13 crew members.
