Jambojet Surpasses 1 Million Passengers in 2022

Kenya Airways subsidiary Jambojet has said it surpassed one million passengers in 2022 the first time in the low-cost airline’s history surpassing its earlier target of 917000 customers. The airline says this increase represents a 38 percent surge in passengers compared to 730,000 customers the same period in 2021 from 15,584 one-way flights across 10 routes. In 2020 the airline says it ferried 317000 customers. To date Jambojet hs flown over 5.6 million passengers since inception in 2014.

Jambojet attributes the surge to an increase in flights to top destinations as well as new routes including Goma in the Democratic Republic of Congo and to the coastal town of Lamu. In total Mombasa recorded the highest number of passengers according to the airline totaling 378,871, followed by the lakeside city of Kisumu at 219,103, Eldoret at 174,331 and Diani at 69,636.

Newer routes also saw a surge in numbers with operations to Lamu with commenced in September 2021 where the airline has daily flights from Nairobi, and 4 times weekly from Mombasa yielding 25,963. Jambojet’s flights to Goma in DRC also saw an increase in numbers with 9074 passengers flying to the lakeside town from 3 weekly flights operated by the airline.

In total, the airline adds that 74,766 children and infants took to the skies during the year as well as 15,838 passengers who traveled as groups. The top flyer took a whopping 84 flights in 2022.

Jambojet operates over 350 flights weekly across 10 routes, seven from its primary hub in Nairobi and three from its secondary hub in Mombasa. To celebrate its one million customers the airline has been selling 1000 tickets at 1000 shillings.
