The National Airports Office (ONDA) is launching construction of a new HUB-style terminal. This unique project, which is part of the “Airports 2030” strategy, is a true technical feat that reflects Morocco’s new ambitions. With a capacity of 20 million passengers per year, it is expected to open in 2029. Estimated investment cost: 15 billion dirhams.
ONDA is preparing to launch a major project for a new terminal at Casablanca’s Mohammed V Airport. This project is a true technical feat and an architectural masterpiece, representing an unprecedented infrastructure revolution in the Moroccan airport sector. Its design is inspired by the waves of the Atlantic. Designed in an “H” shape, this ambitious project aims to meet the requirements of a hub operation that complies with international standards, particularly in terms of baggage handling connection times and jetway utilization rates. It will also meet the needs of forecasted air traffic growth, particularly those related to Royal Air Maroc’s development program.
This new terminal will be connected to the high-speed rail line (HSL) between Kenitra and Marrakech, providing travelers with fast and seamless access to Morocco’s major cities. Similar to major international airports such as Paris-Charles de Gaulle, London Heathrow, and Hong Kong International, this modern infrastructure aims to strengthen intermodal transport and improve the passenger experience. This rail connection will not only significantly reduce travel times between Casablanca and other strategic hubs, but also support the growth in air traffic by facilitating access to the airport for domestic and international travelers.
The new terminal will also include a new parallel runway measuring 3,700 meters by 45 meters, with its associated taxiways and aeronautical infrastructure, as well as aircraft parking facilities and a new control tower measuring approximately 42 meters. The terminal’s various components will offer a completely reinvented, high-quality experience for travelers, optimizing their mobility, comfort, and welcome. It will be spread over three main levels and will include a green oasis, retail areas, a large duty-free area, VIP lounges, and a hotel, all with breathtaking views of the runways.
The various calls for tenders for construction will be launched in the coming months. Earthworks have already begun. Delivery of the new terminal is scheduled for 2029.
With this iconic project, ONDA reaffirms its ambitions to meet the country’s new challenges, particularly in preparation for the 2030 FIFA World Cup. It embodies the new “Airport 2030” strategy, marking a true revolution in terms of airport infrastructure in Morocco and helping to strengthen Morocco’s position as a strategic hub for global trade.
